Former Section 14 Residents ‘Cautiously Optimistic’ on Settlement with Palm Springs
Former residents of Section 14 are “cautiously optimistic” a resolution with the City of Palm Springs is near following a lengthy closed-doors discussion held by the city council Thursday. The council met to discuss a settlement proposal for an ongoing legal claim over the city’s role in destroying homes and evicting residents on land owned by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians in the 1950s and 1960s.
“Tragically, too many have perished along the way, and time is running short. My clients are grateful to those Council members who had the courage to move this matter forward. They remain cautiously optimistic that a resolution is near and will not rest until they have secured the justice they deserve,” said attorney Areva Martin.
